1. Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how NameFound | Baby Names ("we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use the NameFound Android application (the "App").
The App is designed to work without an internet connection. It does not require an account and does not include advertising or analytics software. The current release does not request Android's internet permission.
2. Information processed on your device
The App processes and stores the following information locally so its features work:
- Names you save and generated-name profiles you choose to keep
- Name reactions, discovery history, and discovery progress
- Appearance, speech, and disclosure settings
- Create preferences such as gender, style, inspiration, culture, birth month, sound, and familiarity
- Optional family names and seed names that you enter
This information is stored in the App's private storage using Android Room and DataStore. We do not receive, sell, rent, or use it for advertising or profiling.
3. Name catalog and generated suggestions
The name catalog is bundled with the App. Search, filtering, name generation, and family-name fit calculations run locally on your device. Generated suggestions are informational and may not reflect every cultural, linguistic, or historical interpretation of a name.
4. Device services and sharing
Text-to-speech
When you ask the App to pronounce a name, it uses the text-to-speech service installed on your Android device. That service is supplied by your device manufacturer or a third party and may operate under its own privacy policy. We do not receive the spoken name or speech-service data.
Sharing
When you choose Share, the App creates a PNG name card in its temporary cache and opens the Android share sheet. The card and its name text are sent only to the destination you select. The receiving app or service handles that information under its own privacy policy.
Android backup
Android may back up and restore the App's local data when device backup is enabled. Backups are controlled by your device settings and backup provider. We do not operate or receive those backups.
5. Data collection and sharing
We do not collect personal information or app activity from the App, and we do not share user data with third parties. A user-directed transfer through the Android share sheet is initiated and controlled by you.
6. Retention and security
Local app data remains on your device until you remove it, clear the App's storage, or uninstall the App, subject to Android backup and restore behavior. Temporary share images may remain in the App's cache until they are replaced or Android clears the cache.
The App relies on Android's application sandbox and private storage protections. No method of storage is guaranteed to be completely secure, so keep your device and operating system updated and use an appropriate screen lock.
7. Your choices
- Remove individual names from the Saved screen.
- Choose whether to enter an optional family name or seed name.
- Decline to use pronunciation or sharing features.
- Clear all local App data in Android Settings or uninstall the App.
- Manage device backup and text-to-speech providers in Android Settings.
8. Children's privacy
The App is intended for parents and other adults choosing a name. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the App's features or legal requirements change. We will publish the revised policy at this address and update the effective date above. Material changes should also be described in the App's release notes.
