TidySnap Privacy Policy

This policy describes the current app code. The app owner must add a verified contact route and publish this page before release.

Summary

TidySnap processes files on your Android device. It has no account, advertising, analytics, crash-reporting service, or cloud backend, and it does not send your media to the developer.

Files and information processed

You choose folders through Android's system folder picker. TidySnap inventories only recognized images, videos, audio, and documents. Hidden paths, databases, backups, caches, logs, temporary/control files, archives, and unknown formats are excluded and are not offered for deletion. For eligible files, TidySnap can read names, paths, types, sizes, modified dates, and file content within the grant. Modified dates are compared on-device to offer a view of files at least one year old. It hashes same-size files on-device to identify exact duplicates. Bounded image and video thumbnails and duplicate image previews are decoded on-device through the same folder grant and are not uploaded or saved as new media files. A folder that is already queued or scanning is not started a second time. Metadata and provider URIs for the latest 10 scan sessions, including partial results from active or stopped scans, are saved in app-private storage so progress and results can be shown after reopening the app. The oldest non-active session is removed when a new session exceeds that limit. File hashes are not retained, and nothing is uploaded.

TidySnap can show a source label derived from the selected folder path, such as Sent by you for files inside WhatsApp's Sent directory. Android's folder provider does not supply the sender, chat, group, or group participant. TidySnap does not access WhatsApp message databases or attempt to identify who sent a received file.

Permissions and storage access

The app uses Android's Storage Access Framework rather than broad storage permission. Its folder guide can ask Android's picker to start near the usual standard WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business Media location, but it does not search storage or bypass Android restrictions. Android controls which folders are available, and you still choose and confirm the folder. The selected folder grant is stored locally so you do not have to choose it after every launch. If you choose background scanning, Android 13 and newer asks for notification permission so TidySnap can show ongoing status and completion or failure. Refusing that optional permission prevents background scanning but does not affect foreground scanning. You can revoke access or notification permission in Android settings or by clearing app data.

Deletion, retention, and uninstall

TidySnap never deletes automatically. Files are deleted only after you select them and confirm permanent removal. Source-file deletion may not be reversible. Successful deletion counts and total reclaimed bytes are stored locally to show your cleanup history; they contain no file names or paths. You can stop a scan and retain the partial inventory already found. A session remains until it is displaced by the latest-10 retention limit, app data is cleared, or the app is uninstalled. Clearing app data or uninstalling removes local preferences, cleanup totals, scan metadata, partial inventories, worker state, and grants, but does not restore deleted files or remove copies you exported.

Exports, sharing, and external links

You can export a CSV inventory to a destination you choose. Once exported, that copy is controlled by the destination app or provider. Share app opens Android's Sharesheet with the public Google Play URL. View on Google Play opens the Play Store or a browser. TidySnap does not append private app data to those links.

Network services and third parties

The app requests no internet permission and contains no advertising, analytics, account, cloud-storage, or crash-reporting SDK. The operating system and apps you choose for previews, document storage, sharing, or links apply their own privacy practices.

Backups and security

Android backup is disabled for the app. Media stays in its original selected location unless you delete it. No system can guarantee absolute security; keep device access and backups appropriate for your needs.

Children's privacy

TidySnap is a general-purpose storage utility and is not directed to children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children or anyone else.
