Overview
This privacy policy explains how the Android application Where Left It handles information. The app is a private, offline household inventory designed to help you remember where physical belongings are stored.
We do not collect, receive, sell, rent, or share your inventory data. The app does not require an account and does not connect to a developer-operated server.
Data stored on your device
The app stores information you enter or create, including:
- Item names and physical storage locations
- Categories, optional purchase dates, and notes
- Creation timestamps
- Optional item photographs and references to those photographs
- Theme mode, color palette, and Material You preferences
Inventory records are stored in the app's private SQLite database. Photographs are stored in the app's private files directory, and appearance settings are stored in private app preferences. Other apps cannot ordinarily browse these locations.
Search, filtering, categorization, and CSV generation are performed locally on your device.
Permissions and access
Where Left It does not request internet, camera, photo-library, media, location, contacts, or broad storage permissions.
The app declares camera hardware as optional so it can offer photo capture on supported devices without making a camera a requirement for installation or use.
Photo capture
When you choose to take an item photo, the app opens an installed camera application using Android's activity result system. It grants that camera application temporary access to one app-owned destination through Android's secure FileProvider.
This delegated process does not require Where Left It to request camera or photo-library permission. Cancelling photo capture removes the unused destination file.
Inventory export
Export happens only when you initiate it. Android's document picker lets you choose where the CSV file is saved, including local storage or a document provider available on your device.
An export can contain item names, locations, categories, purchase dates, notes, and app-local photo references. It does not embed the photograph files themselves.
Android backup
The app currently allows Android backup. Depending on your device settings and platform account, Android may back up or restore app data. Those backups are controlled by your device platform and account provider, not by Where Left It or its developer.
Third-party services and links
The app contains no advertising, analytics, crash-reporting, authentication, or cloud-database SDKs.
If you select Buy Me a Coffee from the More menu, the app opens an external support page in your browser. No inventory data is included in that link. Your browser and the external website apply their own privacy policies and may process ordinary web-request information.
Retention and deletion
Your information remains on your device until you delete it, clear the app's storage, or uninstall the app, subject to any copies retained through Android backup or files you have exported.
Deleting an item removes its database record and attempts to remove its associated app-owned photograph. Deleting a category does not delete its items; those items move to the built-in Other category.
Children's privacy
Where Left It is a general-audience utility and is not directed specifically to children. Because the app has no account, advertising, analytics, or developer-operated online service, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated if the app's features or data practices change. The effective date at the top of this page will identify the latest revision. Material changes will be reflected in the app listing or release information where appropriate.
